protection of expansion joints with induced movement

the FIRESTOP ROPES “GB-NE” are circular-section gaskets in two-component intumescent foam for the protection of expansion joints subject to movement. Structural and compartment elements do in fact require gaps capable of compensating for the natural expansion due both to temperature variations and to load variations. These openings compromise the fire resistance of the element containing them and, in particular, render a conceptually correct fire compartmentation useless. Furthermore, joints by definition change their dimensional characteristics as a result of variations in humidity and temperature, but above all as a result of variations in the loads acting on buildings or seismic events. Induced mechanical movement joints verify precisely these aspects. During fire resistance tests, a movement equal to 20% of the maximum envisaged is induced before the test and subsequently, during 80% of the estimated fire resistance time, a movement equal to 100% is induced. The FIRESTOP ROPES “GB-NE” can be easily installed by light compression and insertion into the joint, where they will remain in place, returning to their original dimensions through recovery expansion. If necessary, the FIRESTOP ROPES “GB-NE” can be cut with a utility knife.
